How to play:
Alistar is a support champion. He excels at engaging with his heavy crowd control abilities and being a front-line tank for your team. Alistar has a very important combo that you need to know before playing him. This combo is called Headbutt, Pulverize. This combines his 2nd and 1st ability so you can knock up an enemy easily! The best way to practice this combo is to go into practice mode on Wild Rift. Practice pressing the 2nd ability and as soon as Alistar is about to headbutt the enemy you press his 1st ability! This allows Alistar to travel to the enemy and get a big Pulverize that has the potential to knock up everyone around him. You can use this combo as early as level 2 to get an early advantage for your team during the laning phase.
Alistar’s Abilities
(Passive) Triumphant Roar
When Alistar or a nearby teammate takes damage, he heals himself and nearby allied champions. Triumphant Roar has a very long cooldown, but it is reduced every time Alistar uses his abilities to knock up or stun enemy champions. This passive does not activate immediately if the damage Alistar or his allies take is lower than the healing from the passive.
(Skill 1) Pulverize
Alistar knocks up all nearby enemy champions and deals damage. It has a fairly large area of effect and most of the time you can knock up 2+ champions. Pulverize can be activated while casting Headbutt to interrupt the knockback effect of Headbutt. This is Alistar’s main combo and what makes him so strong! Make sure you use Pulverize when the Headbutt animation is ongoing and not before or after. If you miss time the combo, you might Pulverize the floor or Headbutt the enemy away to safety.
You can also use Flash and Pulverize to surprise the enemy and knock them up very quickly. After you do this, you can then combo that with Headbutt to knock the enemy into your team or your turret.
(Skill 2) Headbutt
Alistar dashes towards an enemy, dealing damage and knocking them back. The animation of Headbutt is really fast and it’s hard for the enemy to react to a Headbutt + Pulverize combo. Headbutt can also be used on turrets to deal damage and close the gap between you and the enemy champions. It’s also a strong peeling tool to keep your team alive. If an enemy champion jumps into your team and is looking to kill your strongest ally, then make sure you just use Headbutt to knock them away.
(Skill 3) Trample
Alistar deals area of effect damage to nearby enemies over a few seconds. If Trample damages an enemy champion 5 times, Alistar’s next attack within 5 seconds is empowered and deals additional damage, also stunning the target enemy champion for a second. When Alistar uses Trample, enemies will be forced to back away because they will be taking damage and the threat of being stunned if they stay near Alistar.
There are multiple different situations where using Trample will be helpful. You can use it just after you hit a Headbutt + Pulverize combo. This means that the enemy will already be on top of you, so they will be forced to dash or Flash away or you can hit an easy stun. Another good scenario is using Trample at the start of the teamfight, stacking up on tanks/bruisers and then when you have max stacks, you can use Headbutt + Pulverize on the important carry of the enemy team and instantly stun them afterwards.
(Ultimate) Unbreakable Will
When you activate Unbreakable Will, it removes all crowd control effects, meaning if you are stunned or rooted you can use this ability to cancel it. You also gain a massive amount of damage reduction for a short duration. This ultimate is great for when you’re about to dive in on the enemy team or under towers, as you won’t take a lot of damage. The crucial thing to understand is when to use your Unbreakable Will, make sure you don’t waste the Ultimate as it has a long cooldown and you can be vulnerable without it.
