How to play:
Gragas is a magic damage-based champion with mobility, crowd control, damage, self-healing and tankiness. Gragas is ok in the early game but as the game gets into the mid/late game, you can pull off some nice combos to carry the team fights. One of the combos is by using Gragas’s Body Slam (3rd Ability), once you hit his Body Slam you can use his Barrel Roll (1st Ability) and Explosive Cask (Ultimate) to deal a lot of damage.
Gragas can also be played in the Baron Lane and Jungle, make sure to check the alternative build at the top of the page! The build with Gragas jungle is very similar however Gragas Baron Lane you want to build a bit more tankiness. There is not much else that is different in terms of play styles.
Gragas’s Abilities
(Passive) Happy Hour
Casting an ability restores health. This helps Gragas stay healthy in the laning phase especially when actively fighting. The passive works really well with Drunken Rage (2nd Ability) so not only do you heal a bit of health, but you also take reduced damage.
(Skill 1) Barrel Roll
Gragas rolls a barrel to a target location that explodes upon re-casting or after a few seconds. Enemies hit take magic damage and are slowed for a few seconds. The damage and slow amount increase over the first few seconds, by up to 150%.
You mainly want to use this ability to poke down the enemy in the laning phase or to last hit minions if you don’t feel comfortable walking up and hitting them directly.
Barrel Roll also reveals the area hit so if you are scared to check a brush because you think someone might be sitting in there, throw your barrel in to check before walking in.
(Skill 2) Drunken Rage
When activated, Gragas does an animation and during this time, damage taken is reduced for a few seconds. Gragas cannot attack or cast spells during this ability so make sure you activate it early or in a safe place.
The next attack within a few seconds after drinking is empowered to splash nearby enemies for bonus magic damage. This empowered attack is effective when you want to quickly clear the minion wave because of the splash damage and when you want to engage.
(Skill 3) Body Slam
This is your main engage and crowd control ability. Gragas charges forward, colliding with the first enemy hit to deal magic damage to nearby enemies. Enemies hit are also bumped backwards, stunning them for a second. Body Slam’s cooldown is reduced by a few seconds if it successfully collides with an enemy.
You can combo Body Slam with Flash fairly easily. This allows your charge to go even further and you can surprise enemies most of the time. To do this combo correctly you need to use Body Slam and whilst you are in the charge animation use Flash and the animation will carry on after Flash or it will stop if you Flash onto an enemy.
(Ultimate) Explosive Cask
Gragas hurls a barrel that explodes when it lands, dealing magic damage and knocking enemies away from the explosion’s centre. Explosive Cask will make or break a teamfight. Make sure you manually aim your ultimate because sometimes you can knock enemies away from you to safety when you don’t want to.
When used correctly, you can use your ultimate at the start of the fight to knock enemies towards you and then you can combo that with Body Slam (3rd Ability) to stun them followed by a Drunken Rage (2nd Ability) auto-attack to deal a lot of damage
