Jax’s Combo

Best combo for Jax:

AA -> Skill 2 -> AA -> Skill 1 -> AA

This combo takes advantage of the double auto-attack reset Jax has in his kit to make a positive trade with the opponent. It’s simple and spot-on.

Skill 3 (first cast) -> Skill 3 (second cast when near the opponents you want to stun) -> Skill 1 -> Skill 2 -> AA

This will be your main pre-level 5 all-in combo. You can win most 1v1 fights by using this, and sometimes even 1v2 fights.

Skill 3 (first cast) -> Skill 1 -> Flash -> Skill 3 (second cast) -> Auto-attack -> Skill 2 -> Auto-attack

This combo will let you reach the backline a lot easier, by using Flash in combination with the leap in Jax’s kit. It’s useful for starting a team fight or for taking down major damage threats.

Skill 3 (first cast) -> Skill 1 (towards an ally/ward) -> Flash -> Skill 3 (second cast)

Jax can use Skill 1 to hop towards an ally, or even a ward in order to close the gap. You can then use Flash and hop onto the enemy to stun them and unleash the Jax!

How to play:

Jax is a top-lane fighter. He is not the best early game champion, he becomes a bit stronger in the mid-game once you get your core items, but the late game is really where Jax thrives. He can split push in a side lane to win a game and he also has insane 1 vs 1 potential and great escape with Leap Strike being able to jump away or onto champions and Counter Strike which allows him to dodge auto attacks.

Jax can also be played in the jungle, make sure to check the alternative build at the top of the page! The build is very similar to the top lane as all the items work well with Jax’s abilities.

Jax’s Abilities

(Passive) Relentless Assault

Attacks grant Attack Speed for a few seconds (stacking up a few times). In the laning phase, you can auto-attack minions to gain stacks before you go in for a fight so you will get a huge burst of attack speed.

When the game gets to the late game this passive works well when Jax wants to split push in a side lane as he can push lanes fast and if someone comes to stop Jax he can jump onto them and kill them instantly.

(Skill 1) Leap Strike

Jax leaps to a target unit, dealing physical damage if it is an enemy. This is Jax’s main mobility tool. He can use this to engage or disengage by targeting enemies, allies, minions or jungle monsters. Leap Strike works well with his other abilities, especially Counter Strike (3rd Ability).

Strike and then use Leap Strike so when you jump onto an enemy you can stun them instantly with Counter Strike before they can even react.

(Skill 2) Empower

Empowers the next attack or Leap Strike to deal additional magic damage. This is an auto-attack reset meaning that the next attack is immediately available after casting the ability which means you can do two attacks in quick succession.

You can use Empower on towers so you can take them down quicker and it’s much easier to use Empower to secure last hits on minions in the early game if you don’t feel too comfortable.

(Skill 3) Counter Strike

Jax enters a defensive stance, dodging all incoming attacks and taking 25% reduced damage from champions for a few seconds. After this duration, nearby enemies are stunned for a second and take physical damage.

Jax can re-cast this ability at any time which ends the defensive stance early to damage and stun nearby enemies immediately.

You can still attack and use Leap Strike (1st Ability) whilst in Counter Strike to do more damage or reposition before Counter Strike ends.

(Ultimate) Grandmaster’s Might

This ultimate has 2 parts. The passive: Every third consecutive attack deals additional magic damage. It’s always good to count in your head how many attacks you have done on an enemy as this can be the difference between killing an enemy or not.

The active: Jax stops holding back, gaining Armor and Magic Resist for a few seconds. Jax becomes extremely tanky when using the ultimate and it’s important to use this before you jump in and use your combo.
